Washington, D.C. – August 24, 2026 – The Commercial Space Federation (CSF) applauds the National Space Transportation Policy released by the Administration on August 20, 2026. The 2026 policy provides needed updates that reflect the current state of the launch and reentry industry and a clear framework for how the U.S. government can best support the commercial space industry.
As CSF recommended in its Scrubbed report, the United States must build and operate the infrastructure necessary to support hundreds—and eventually thousands—of launches each year. Meeting this demand is essential to sustaining U.S. leadership in space, including building a permanent presence on the Moon, strengthening national security, and unlocking new economic opportunities in orbit.
The updated policy includes many recommendations CSF and our members have spent years advocating for, including:
- Integrating space launch and reentry management into airspace and air traffic control modernization efforts
- Designating priority airspace for space launch corridors
- Improving transparency and scheduling for operations at the federal ranges
- Identifying federal land for new reentry sites and evaluating reentry safety criteria
- Ensuring reliable access to spectrum for space launch, reentry, recovery, and on-orbit activities
- Regular reevaluation of U.S. export policies and controls
- Coordinated NASA and DoW investment into federal facilities and ranges
- Directing NASA to rely on affordable commercial transportation, including for the planned U.S. Moon Base and missions to Mars
- Directing NASA to ensure the availability of commercial crew and cargo services to support United States Government needs
- Enabling the development of new commercial capabilities and services for national security purposes, including in-space transportation
CSF looks forward to continuing to work with the Administration, federal agencies, and the U.S. Congress to implement these policies and ensure American superiority in space.
